3M Scotch-Weld epoxy adhesive 2290 is a solvent-based, low viscosity amber tinted thermosetting epoxy adhesive requiring heat cure. It is designed for metal to metal coating and subsequent bonding for example, in motor lamination and wire winding. 3M Scotch-Weld epoxy adhesive 2290 is designed to coat and bond metal substrates, including steel and aluminum. This epoxy is a low (21% solids) formulation with very low viscosity. 3M Scotch-Weld epoxy adhesive 2290 can be applied in a variety of methods including brushing, flow coating, dip coating, roll coating, knife coating and spraying. It is ideal for assembling metal laminations and various applications on metal cores, rotors and motors and wire windings. B-staging coated and dried parts are optional allowing final cure up to 3 months later. Epoxy adhesives are part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which include polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate and others. 1-part heat cured epoxies are rigid adhesives that have outstanding strength when measured at elevated temperatures. These adhesives require a thermal cure, typically around 250 to 350 deg F (120 to 180 deg C) for 40 to 60 min, to achieve full strength. They provide high shear and peel strengths, depending on the formula and better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives.
